LONDON, England – As we count down to Nokia World 2010, we thought it’d be a good time to take a look back at 2009’s event. Stuttgart was the location and things kicked off in a rather glamourous location for this intrepid reporter – the Porsche museum. There the winners of the Calling All Innovators contest were announced and those shortlisted had an opportunity to show off their wares. But that was just a preamble for the following morning we pitched up at Messe Stuttgart for OPK’s keynote speech. Read on after the jump to find out what happened next. Continue reading>>
GLOBAL – In this week’s poll, we’d like to know more about Conversations readers’ use of apps and downloads. Customising your phone and trying new things can form a serious addiction. Do you add new functions daily, dabble when you hear about something new, or leave your phone untouched? Cast your vote and let us know. We’ll do a recap on the results next week.
GLOBAL – How can you improve the speed of your text input on a touch-screen device? Swype might offer the answer and it’s just become available from the beta labs. Instead of tapping on each individual letter, you simply move your finger from letter to letter in order to spell out the complete word. Swype looks at your input path and adds the most likely word. If it isn’t certain then it gives you a choice. The video below shows you how it works.
GLOBAL – Over the last twenty years, the ability to make clear and secure calls, browse the web and to do text messaging on your mobile phone has really taken off, and it’s all thanks to the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM). Want to know more but you’ve only got five minutes? Join us after the break for a crash course on the world’s favourite mobile communications system.
LONDON, England – ‘Reality is broken. Game designers can fix it’. That’s the slogan of one of the speakers at Nokia World this year that we’re most looking forward to hearing from: Jane McGonigal. With a career in teaching game theory and design, and with a PhD from Berkeley, McGonigal is fascinated by the ways in which video games might save the world. How does that work? Read on to find out.
GLOBAL – At the risk of stating the obvious, one of the great advantages of apps on a mobile device is that they are always with you – even when you’re abroad. This makes them an ideal way to replace the library of dictionaries and phrase books that foreign travel used to require. In this week’s app round-up, we focus on tools for coping with – and learning – foreign languages. Allons-y!
GLOBAL – We’ve been working hard behind the scenes this summer (well, the team have, I’ve been on holiday mostly) to bring you a brand new look for Nokia Conversations. We’re looking all set to get the finished version live this coming Friday and we’re super excited about what we’ve got in store for you. Check out a full size image after the jump. We’re not going to show off the homepage yet, as that has some extra treats in store for you.
GLOBAL – Welcome once more to Friday’s round-up of the interesting posts from the furthest reaches of the World Wide Web. If it’s mobile and it’s worth having a think or a chuckle over, we’re on it. If you’ve come across anything that fits the bill, or a blog we ought to add to our reading list, let us know in the comments. Read on to see what caught our eyes and ended up in our bookmarks this week.
GLOBAL – On this week’s Blogbite, the boys get the lowdown on the new Nokia 5250, have a chat about Nokia Money in India, pay respect to A.M.O.L.E.D and reveal whether you like to touch or type.
Grabbing tracks on the go doesn’t get any easier than through the Nokia Music Store. It’ll work on a PC, so you can make the most of your speedy home broadband, or over the mobile network while you’re away. If you’re within ... Continue reading>>
